Efficient XML Interchange Whitepaper
The IJIS Institute , a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security, announces the release of a whitepaper on Efficient eXtensible Markup Language (XML) Interchange (EXI). The document is now available on the IJIS Institute’s web site at http://www.ijis.org/docs/WP/ijis_wp_itac_exi_20100125_final.pdf. The whitepaper, authored by the IJIS Institute’s Technical Advisory Committee (ITAC), identifies EXI as an emerging technology applicable to integrated justice and public safety data sharing in the context of the Justice Reference Architecture (JRA) and the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM). In essence, EXI is a compact binary representation of XML that leverages existing XML technologies, such as schemas, rather than replace them with another format or methodology. It addresses the increased need for efficient or binary XML resulting from the increased use of XML. XML has gained significant use and adoption within many information technology-related fields; integrated justice and public safety are no exception. EXI was identified as an efficient XML solution through of the extensive and open process that was used by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This W3C effort was performed by the XML Binary Characterization Working Group and later by the EXI Working Group.

XPath Navigation Holding Back the SQL/XML Database Industry
This article was published on Ken North’s SQL Summit Site, Jan 18, 2008. It identifies the advantages that are gained from navigationless XML access and processing for XML databases. XML was designed for markup with its hierarchical relationships that exceed standard database hierarchical relationships and principles. Standard database processing with its more limited standard hierarchical relationships and rigid hierarchical principles can be processed without manual user navigation allowing it to support more complex full multi-leg hierarchical processing. This article explains these additional capabilities.

XML-RPC ping endpoint in C# and ASP.NET
All blog platforms send out pings using the XML-RPC protocol whenever a new post is created or an old one is updated. It is very simple to send out XML-RPC pings using C#, because it is just a normal HTTP request with some XML in the request body.

LINQ to XML
LINQ to XML provides an in-memory XML programming interface that leverages the .NET Language-Integrated Query (LINQ) Framework. LINQ to XML uses the latest .NET Framework language capabilities and is comparable to an updated, redesigned Document Object Model (DOM) XML programming interface. The LINQ family of technologies provides a consistent query experience for objects (LINQ), relational databases (LINQ to SQL), and XML (LINQ to XML). For more information about LINQ and LINQ to XML, see the Project LINQ Web Site. This site contains white papers about the LINQ project and related technologies. For more information and news about LINQ to XML and other Microsoft XML technologies, see the XML Team Blog.

White Paper: What's New for XML in SQL Server 2008
Microsoft introduced XML-related capabilities in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with the FOR XML and OPENXML Transact-SQL keywords, which enabled developers to write Transact-SQL code to retrieve a query result as a stream of XML and to shred an XML document into a rowset. SQL Server 2005 extended these XML capabilities significantly with the introduction of a native xml data type that supports XSD schema validation, XQuery-based operations, and XML indexing. SQL Server 2008 builds on the XML capabilities of previous releases and provides enhancements to meet the challenges that customers have faced when storing and manipulating XML data in the database. Included in This Document Introduction The Evolution of SQL Server XML Capabilities XML Functionality in SQL Server 2000 XML Functionality in SQL Server 2005 XML Functionality in SQL Server 2008 XML Schema Validation Enhancements Lax Validation Support Full xs:datetime Support Union and List Types XQuery Enhancements XML DML Enhancements Conclusion

XMLFox Advance is an intuitive xml and xml schema(XSD) editor, allows the xml developer to create schemas and show a visual representation of what the xml document will look like for that schema. XMLFox Advance XML/XSD tool is a sequel of the well-known world-leading XMLFox freeware XML/XSD Editor. Like its precursor, the XMLFox Advance has the same user-friendly interface. XMLFox Advance is an advanced XMLFox XML/XSD Editor with the following new attractive features: It allows you to convert XML encoding. Especially from/to UTF-16. Let's say you have XML file with "utf-8" encoding. Now by using XMLFox Advance you can easily convert whole "utf-8" encoded XML to "utf-16" encoding and vise versa. There are several other encodings are supported. The special interface on XML Tree view has been designed that allows modify XML record in a table/row representation in a Grid-style window. XMLFox Advance supports Validation an XML against an XSD schema. XML content could be validated against an XSD schema located inside your XML and against an XSD schema located outside as well. XMLFox Advance considers any XML file as a database. Since the XML is a database it has tables that are related to each other somehow. The tool provides Relationships interface window with the possibility to add/update/delete XML tables. XMLFox Advance has a drop-down toolbar on Grid view pane. The following buttons are located on the toolbar: Create new table Table design Print Filter The XMLFox Advance Filter interface helps you to display only those records in an XML table that match one or more criteria. Font Relationships The XMLFox Advance allows you to browse the Relationships between tables in XML. XMLFox Advance considers any XML file as a relational database. Since the XML is a database it has tables that are related to each other somehow. One of the strengths of a relational database is the ability to relate or associate information about various items in the database. Convert to In XMLFox Advance you can output data to several other data format files. The Editor allows you export XML tables or whole XML to the following data files: TXT; convert into CSV (Comma Separated Value) file, convert into HTML page, create MS Access database, and create Excel file. When you export XML you have the following two options: 1. "Convert the current XML table only" that allows you export selected XML table. 2. "Export whole XML according to its structure" XSL designer interface. Besides editing and validating an XML document the XMLFox Advance allows you to generate special XSL document, which will accompany your final XML document with a template XSL style-sheet.
